Healingstation

Since 2018 we have started to set up a small healing station at the Primary School. 500 children have minor accidents and abrasions and bruises every day. The kids have a cough, headache, or stomachache. Since most children have no shoes, bloody feet are also commonplace, as the township is full of shards. In order to be able to take care of these little aches and pains, we have provided the school with medicines, disinfectants, and bandages. The two healing ladies, the teachers Miss Isete and Miss Namaset, do their job wholeheartedly.
Ever since the Healingstation has existed, children have come to school with headaches, coughing, and stomach aches—because they know they will be helped here, so they won’t miss class.
The remedies from the medical garden, such as Artemisia for fever, Bulbinella for eczema, or Moringa for a healthy immune system, are also used.
In addition to supplying the school with medicines, our small healing station also includes providing knowledge. Workshops on the subject of hygiene and prevention are just as much a part of this as the “girlstalk” in which Miss Petra talks to the girls about contraception, HIV, infectious diseases, abuse, and the possibilities of self-care.
In the meantime, the healing station has spread throughout the township. The girls talk to each other about topics that have been taboo until now; two kindergartens have been supplied with the medicines, and the medicines will also be distributed at the soup kitchen.
It is mainly the women who approach Miss Petra to express their concerns. As far as we can, we try to help here as well.
