GO BEAM Academy
At the 2021 Vision Sharing Meeting in Kalkfeld, together with the then school principal, Matilda Kharuchas, and many committed people from the suburb, the idea of an educational venue that goes beyond school was born. The question of a better future for children and young people in the township led to a clear vision: education, technology, and practical skills as a foundation. Thus, the idea of the GO BEAM Academy as a multi-skills center was born.
A lot has happened since then:
GO BEAM Kindergarten: Founded in 2022, it offers 35 children from vulnerable backgrounds a real preschool education with structure, creativity, targeted support, and nutritious food. A second group is in the planning stages.
GO BEAM Learning Support: Former students help schoolchildren with homework and subjects where they need individual support.
GO BEAM Computer Lab: Since spring 2024, children and young people have been learning basic digital skills. The lab is equipped with open-source educational software on donated laptops and is supervised by a small, dedicated team.
All activities take place in rented rooms at the Lutheran church near the primary school, under the direction of Ms. Matilda Kharuchas, who keeps everything running smoothly and with whom we have enjoyed a trusting working relationship since 2007.
The GO BEAM Academy is growing steadily and having a noticeable impact:
Teachers report how well prepared the children are when they start school after kindergarten. With a basic knowledge of numbers, colors, and language, they find it much easier to get started. The additional support and digital learning opportunities also open up new perspectives for young people in Kalkfeld.
Together with the community, supported by long-term commitment and vision, a place is being created where the future begins.
